SJM Shares Warmth with Communities to Celebrate Lunar New Year
22 January 2025 – SJM Resort, S.A. (“SJM”), a local enterprise rooted in Macau for over 60 years, has remained committed to supporting the community. To celebrate the Lunar New Year, SJM has organised a series of community care initiatives to share warmth with those in need in society.
From 13 to 22 January, SJM mobilised 70 members of its volunteer team to launch the “Lunar New Year Charity Operation”. They visited underprivileged families, senior citizens living alone and students from organisations and charity groups like the Macau Special Olympics, the Macau Association of the Hearing Impaired, Escola de S. José de Ká-Hó, the Macau Down Syndrome Association and the Against Child Abuse (Macau) Association, reaching more than 2,500 people. The volunteers engaged warmly with the families, teenagers, and elders, delivering gifts and heartfelt wishes to ensure they experienced the joy and happiness of the Spring Festival.
Additionally, SJM organised a tour for senior citizens from the Centro de Convívio da Obra das Mães on 17 January. The group embarked the “SJM x Macau Cruise”, enjoying the scenic coastal views from Barra to Coloane on board, before they headed to the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau, which has been beautifully adorned with Lunar New Year decors. Guided by SJM team members, the seniors explored the “FORTUNE REALMS: Pop-Up Museum of Chinese Culture & Arts (Macau Station)” exhibition. The experience was rounded off with an elegant afternoon tea featuring Lunar New Year delights at the “Eight Treasures” restaurant. Interactive games that new year gifts and spring couplets added to the warm atmosphere.
On January 18, SJM invited members from different families affiliated with the Salvation Army Joy Family Integrated Service Center and Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service of Macau to visit the Grand Lisboa Resort Macau. The group enjoyed the immersive “SJM presents: Macau Art City · Naked Ocean” and “FORTUNE REALMS: Pop-Up Museum of Chinese Culture & Arts (Macau Station)” exhibitions, and the “Snoopy Winter Holiday” installations. This event aimed at fostering communication and interaction between parents and children, creating a heart-warming holiday experience filled with laughter and memorable moments.
SJM held an event at GLP Arte in the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau to welcome the Year of Snake, featuring esteemed Chinese calligraphers Kuan Kun Chong, Ieong Keang Sang, Ho Loi Seng and Ma Tang. Over 1,200 spring couplets were written and distributed in just two hours, promoting the charm of traditional Chinese culture, and bringing joy to the community.
SJM also invited A Casa do Arco-Íris Esplendoroso da Associação dos Familiares Encarregados dos Deficientes Mentais de Macau, Fuhong Society of Macau, Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Services Coordination Office, and Oxfam in Macau to arrange charity sales in the employee areas of Grand Lisboa Palace Resort, Grand Lisboa, and Jai Alai Oceanus. This fund raised by the initiative will be used to support the organisations’ operation and future development.
