SJM Supports the “Earth Hour 2025”
22 March 2025 – SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) has proactively responded to “Earth Hour”, the global campaign initiated by WWF, by switching off exterior lights and non-essential indoor illuminations at SJM’s Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau (“Grand Lisboa Palace”), Grand Lisboa Macau (“Grand Lisboa”) and other properties on 22 March at 8:30 p.m. for one hour. Guests were also encouraged to switch off their hotel room lights as part of this environmentally driven initiative. Through participation in this annual global campaign, SJM aims to raise community awareness about climate change mitigation, energy conservation and carbon reduction measures, contributing to sustainable development goals.
On the same day, SJM, as a representative of the Low Carbon Green Hotel Development Alliance, was invited to participate as an “Acknowledgment of Appreciation” at the lights-out ceremony of “2025 Earth Hour” China’s main event in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin hosted by WWF (Switzerland) Beijing Representative Office.
SJM fully supports and is proactively collaborating with the Macau SAR Government’s environmental policies to build a green city and has introduced various energy-saving measures with remarkable achievements. For example, in 2024, solar lighting installations were completed on the roofs of all four towers at the Grand Lisboa Palace, achieving 100% coverage and an estimated annual saving of approximately 20,000 kWh. LED energy-efficient lighting is also widely applied across SJM’s properties, generating estimated annual electricity savings of around 334,000 kWh at Grand Lisboa Palace and 385,000 kWh at the Grand Lisboa. Another key aspect of SJM’s emission-reduction efforts is its transportation management, which includes over 70 eco-friendly energy buses replacing traditional diesel buses, significantly reducing its carbon footprint.
SJM has been recognised for its outstanding performance in sustainability and environmental protection, garnering multiple awards at the “Macau Energy Saving Activity 2024” and the “2025 Hong Kong Sustainable Development Innovation and Technology Awards.”
Through these environmental protection initiatives, SJM not only demonstrates its unwavering commitment to energy conservation and emission reduction but also contributes to the sustainable goals of both Macau and the world.
