Whether you can fully adapt and excel depends not only on effort but also on perseverance. In facing future opportunities and challenges, you must comport yourselves with dignity and resilience, upholding a rigorous approach to learning while continuously striving for self-improvement. Particularly in this era of AI, where information is both abundant and rapidly evolving, cultivating the ability to discern truth from falsehood becomes ever more crucial.” This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance. Ms. Daisy Ho encouraged students to learn from history, contribute to safeguarding global peace, carry forward the spirit of patriotism, and dedicate their youthful energy to advancing the development of Macau and the nation.
A representative of this year’s scholarship recipients, Ng Chi Keng, expressed her gratitude to SJM for the recognition, “SJM is dedicated to nurturing local talent for Macau’s long-term development. This scholarship not only provides financial support but also serves as a profound moral encouragement, demonstrating that diligence will invariably be recognised. It acts as a guiding beacon, inspiring students to persevere in their pursuit of excellence.”
The SJM Scholarship was established in 2005 to reward outstanding children of employees pursuing higher education programmes, thereby nurturing talent for society. Applicants must be children of employees of SJM or STDM, and be enrolled in their first year of university studies. Selected students will receive an annual scholarship of MOP 20,000 until the completion of their chosen 4-5 year higher education programme. To date, the SJM Scholarship has benefited over 320 outstanding students, with total scholarship disbursements exceeding MOP 15 million.
SJM is committed to providing diverse and extensive development opportunities for employees and their children through a wide range of programmes. In addition to the SJM Scholarship, which has been running for over two decades, SJM also organises the annual “SJM Employees’ Children Summer Programme”, offered free of charge to employees’ children and those of their relatives. Regular family-oriented activities and competitions are also held to promote family harmony. This not only reflects SJM’s dedication to valuing and caring for its employees and their families, but also demonstrates our support for the Macao SAR Government’s policy of “Building Macau Through Talent”. Through these concrete actions, SJM contributes to nurturing the next generation of talent for Macao's sustainable development.
