SJM joins hands with Special Olympics in Unity Fundraising Gala Dinner
Organised by Special Olympics, and fully supported by Special Olympics Macau and SJM Resorts, S.A., ("SJM") the Special Olympics Unity Fundraising Gala Dinner was held at the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort on 12 December 2022. A charity auction was held during the evening, and SJM was the successful bidder of the autographed tennis racket donated by Li Na.
2022 marks the 35th anniversary of Special Olympics Macau. In celebration, a series of Special Olympics events have been held throughout the year in Macau, benefiting numerous Special Olympics athletes and families. The gala dinner was the culmination of the entire year's Special Olympics activities, aiming to raise funds for the Special Olympics projects in the coming year, to provide a good platform for the development of people with intellectual disabilities, and to foster society as a whole to create an atmosphere of acceptance, equality and respect, so that people with intellectual disabilities can share freedom, dignity, health and happiness. Members of Special Olympics East Asia, including Special Olympics China, Special Olympics Macau and Special Olympics Mongolia, were joined by Special Olympics supporters at the event.
All funds raised in the evening will be used to support the important projects of the Special Olympics International Strategic Plan and help to develop the Special Olympics movement in China. The 16th Special Olympics World Summer Games will be held in Berlin during 17-25 June 2023, welcoming over 7,000 Special Olympics athletes from approximately 170 countries and territories, and over 20,000 volunteers. Proceeds from the gala dinner will certainly help Special Olympics athletes to better prepare for the upcoming World Games.
The event was attended by Regional President and Managing Director of Special Olympics East Asia Ms. Freda Fung, Special Olympics Global Ambassador Mr. Zou Shiming, President of the Sports Bureau Mr. Pun Weng Kun, Macau deputy to the National People's Congress and President of the Federation of Macau-China Sport General Associations Mr. He Jing Lin, President of the Council of the Portuguese Communities for Asia-Pacific Ms. Rita Santos, Vice President of Special Olympics Macau Mr. Vincent Ip, Former Chinese Women's Volleyball National Team Captain Ms. Hui Ruoqi, China's First Female Surfing Champion Ms. Guo Shujuan, Special Olympics Board Member Dr. Shi Derong and Special Olympics East Asia Senior Advisory Committee members.
