Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (“SJM”) puts employees first and is dedicated to building a safe and healthy workplace for all team members. In support of an industry-wide commitment to workplace safety initiated by the Labour Affairs Bureau of the Macau SAR Government (“DSAL”), SJM signed the Occupational Safety and Health Charter at the Grand Lisboa on 2 January 2018, pledging to provide its employees a safe and healthy working environment, and supporting Macau to promote the culture of occupational safety and health (“OSH”).

Witnessed by the Director of DSAL Mr. Wong Chi Hong, the Charter was signed by Ms. Angela Leong, Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer of SJM, also Chairman of the Staff Welfare Consultative Committee of SJM, and Mr. Jones Chao, Director of Human Resources of SJM, on behalf of the company and employees respectively. Other officiating guests included Ms. Chan Ioc Sut, Head of the Research and Investigation Department of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau of the Macau SAR Government and Mr. Liu Bin, Director-General of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR. Over 100 SJM employees attended the event.

Ms. Angela Leong, Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer of SJM, said, “SJM attaches great importance to the safety and health of team members, and is dedicated to promoting occupational safety and health in Macau. Each department of SJM has formulated strict guidelines on work safety in accordance with its operational characteristics. We welcome suggestions and accept feasible solutions proposed by the Labour Affairs Bureau and our employees. We will continue to build a safe and comfortable working environment for our employees with utmost sincerity and effort. At the same time, we encourage our employees to actively coordinate with the company in implementing the maintenance measures and management policies of occupational health and safety. We believe in working together for safety – establishing a safe and healthy working environment requires the joint effort of the company and all of our team members.”

Mr. Wong Chi Hong, Director of DSAL, remarked in his speech, “We are receiving increasing attention and support from various industries in Macau towards the Occupational Safety and Health Charter. The Charter aims to foster co-operation between employers and employees in building a safe and healthy working environment for employees and to establish a comprehensive occupational safety and health management system. The signing of the charter not only helps build a healthy corporate image and reputation, but also helps strengthen employees’ sense of belonging to the company, and increase employees’ morale and work efficiency, which in turn profits the company. We sincerely wish SJM success in the implementation of safety and health standards within the company, setting an exemplary model for the industry.”

SJM’s OSH Charter aims to foster a safe and healthy work environment and to raise the employees’ understanding and awareness of workplace safety, supporting Macau in further promoting the culture of OSH. Each department of SJM has formulated strict guidelines on work safety in accordance with its operational characteristics. SJM’s two clinics, located at the Grand Lisboa and Sun Kin Yip Commercial Center, provide medical services including preventive vaccinations to staff members, and are in a position to offer emergency aid for work-related accidents at any time. In an effort to provide a more comprehensive occupational safety and health management system and in support of promoting workplace safety initiated by the Labour Affairs Bureau, SJM is setting up an Occupational Safety Management Committee to focus on fire prevention measures and exercises, food and environmental hygiene and safety, first aid measures and training, as well as precautions for epidemic diseases and natural disasters such as typhoons. The Committee will work hand-in-hand with all departments to implement and promote safety and health measures while monitoring and assessing their effectiveness, and will conduct regular reviews with the aim of optimizing the work environment. In addition, SJM will continue to take every measure to ensure the safety of the equipment made available at its health care rooms, nursing rooms, staff canteens and rest areas.

The signing ceremony was followed by an awards ceremony, presenting certificates to 22 employees who had graduated with with Grade A from the Technical Training and Development Programme offered by SJM’s Electrical and Mechanical Department and had also passed the Electrical Maintenance Examination – Intermediate Level of DSAL. Over 1,000 staff members were successfully trained since the programme established in 2015, demonstrating SJM’s achievement in offering professional training to its employees. This year’s training programme aims to increase the number of female Technician II to reach 10% of the total number of technicians at the department. Term 1 saw the enrollment of five female members, the first time for the programme to record participation of female staff.

In addition, SJM is committed to providing employment training to the disabled, with an aim to help them fully integrate into society. Four outstanding employees were each awarded a certificate of excellence at today’s event.
