28 October 2023 - SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) collaborated with the Office of Sports Affairs of the University of Macau (“UM”) to organise the “SJM x UM Wushu Experience Camp” for the first time on 28 October 2023. Held at the UM Sports Complex, the camp was led by martial art athletes from the university, imparting basic wushu skills to a group of 10 local Macau secondary school students, with the aim of promoting the essence of traditional Chinese culture.

The camp was open to participants free of charge and garnered enthusiastic responses. To maintain a high standard of instruction, the camp conducted a draw to select 10 participants, aged between 12 and 18. The curriculum covered fundamental elements of martial arts, such as salutation gestures, basic steps and kick techniques, Five-Step Fist, as well as an introduction to Tai Chi Fan. Chinese martial arts are an integral cultural heritage, offering not only aesthetically pleasing and powerful movements but also developing virtuous character and fostering self-improvement. Under the careful guidance of the university’s martial artists, the participants, despite being new to martial arts, showed good process and gained an appreciation for the art. Upon completion, each participant received a mini plush toy of SJM’s tourism ambassador “Sam the Rooster” dressed in traditional Kung Fu attire.

This wushu camp is another new programme in the ongoing collaboration between SJM and the Office of Sports Affairs of UM, following last November’s tennis experience day and a two-week tennis camp in August. Through these free events, SJM aims to engage Macau’s youth in physical activities, promote popular sports culture, and identify potential talents to boost the sports sector in Macau.
