SJM Theodore Racing by PREMA field five cars for ninth Macau Grand Prix title campaign
Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (“SJM”) hosted the official media reception today at the Grand Lisboa for the SJM Theodore Racing by PREMA, ahead of the 65th Macau Grand Prix.
SJM has been the Title Sponsor and Official Partner of Theodore Racing by PREMA for the past five years and this successful partnership continues for 2018. ICBC (Macau) also returns as the Promotion Partner of the team.
Attending the media activity were Ms. Angela Leong, Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer of SJM, Dr. Rui Cunha, Director of SJM, Mr. Felix Chan, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of ICBC (Macau), Mr. Teddy Yip, Jr., CEO of SJM Theodore Racing by PREMA, and the team’s five drivers Mr. Guanyu Zhou, Mr. Mick Schumacher, Mr. Ralf Aron, Mr. Marcus Armstrong and Mr. Robert Shwartzman.
Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer of SJM, Ms. Angela Leong, commented, “SJM, with its roots in Macau, fully supports the Macau Grand Prix - a locally developed international event. In order to add to the fun and excitement of this motorsports carnival, SJM will launch a series of activities for participation by the public, including the disadvantaged, students and members of our volunteer team. Dr. Rui Cunha, Director of SJM, added, “SJM is proud to continue our longstanding support for the Macau Grand Prix by being the Title Sponsor and Official Partner of SJM Theodore Racing by PREMA for the sixth consecutive year, and the Title Sponsor of the SJM Macau GT Cup - FIA GT World Cup for the fourth consecutive year. We are delighted to welcome here today Mr. Teddy Yip Jr. and the SJM Theodore Racing team, which for the first time is comprised of five outstanding drivers, coming from a stunning triple crown in the driver, team and rookie competitions in the 2018 FIA Formula 3 European Championship.”
Targeting at a record ninth Macau Grand Prix victory for the Theodore Racing team, Mr. Teddy Yip Jr. said, “It is a pleasure to be here in Macau together with our loyal partner SJM, with whom we have enjoyed an excellent relationship - since 2013. We were Macau Grand Prix winners together in 2013 and 2015, and we believe we are in excellent shape to return SJM Theodore Racing by PREMA to the top of the podium in 2018. Our drivers are five of the most exciting young talents in motorsport right now and I am certain that they will be in contention for victory this weekend. I am delighted to introduce you to Guanyu Zhou, Mick Schumacher, Ralf Aron, Marcus Armstrong and Robert Shwartzman.”
Guanyu Zhou, the first Chinese driver to win a FIA Formula 3 race commented, “I am delighted to be back here in Macau. It is the event I truly look forward to and one I would love to win so close to home. I have had some memorable moments this season with two FIA Formula 3 European Championship victories and I feel confident we have the package to challenge for victory. This is my third appearance at Macau and since experience can make a big difference here, I feel well prepared for this year’s event. Thank you to everyone at SJM Theodore Racing by PREMA for their support this season.”
FIA Formula 3 European Champion Mick Schumacher commented, “It’s great to be back here in Macau representing SJM Theodore Racing by PREMA. It has been a truly fantastic season for the entire team and I am proud to come here as the 2018 FIA Formula 3 European Champion. This is the race every Formula 3 driver wants to win, and I will be doing my very best to do just that. The Macau Grand Prix is a very historic race and has been won by some of the world’s most successful racing drivers - it would be a huge honour for me to add my name to that list. A huge thank you to SJM, Teddy and to Rene for the belief and trust they have shown in me these past seasons, I will do my very best to win this weekend.”
Ralf Aron who took 3rd in the 64th Macau Grand Prix commented, “I am very excited to be in Macau again. Standing on the podium last season was a career highlight for me so I’ll be going all out for the chance to stand on top again as the winner. After a race winning season in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, another strong result here is the perfect way to conclude my season. This is the race we have all been looking forward to and it is the one everyone is keen to win. With SJM Theodore Racing by PREMA I believe I am with the best team to achieve this.”
Macau Grand Prix rookie Marcus Armstrong said “I have been looking forward to this event for a long time and I really cannot wait for the opportunity to compete in such a legendary race, especially with a team like SJM Theodore Racing by PREMA. It will be a learning curve as a rookie, but I am with one of the best teams to learn quickly. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank SJM, Teddy and Rene for their support this season - it’s been a memorable year.”
Robert Shwartzman, FIA Formula 3 Rookie Champion remarked “I cannot wait to get out on track and experience this iconic circuit - it’s something I have been excited about all season. I’ve had a great season, my first in Formula 3, so the chance to end it on a high by performing well at the Macau Grand Prix is a huge opportunity. SJM Theodore Racing by PREMA is a great team and I have learnt so much with them this year - it would be a dream to mark my debut by winning.”
In celebration of “2018 Macao Year of Gastronomy”, the media reception featured an interactive game “Macau Gourmet Challenge” with the Team, during which they were introduced to master-crafted cuisines presented by The Eight restaurant at Grand Lisboa, the only Chinese restaurant in Macau boasting three Michelin stars.
After the media reception, the SJM Theodore Racing by PREMA drivers met the public at an autograph session held at Oceanus at Jai Alai.
