SJM switches off lights in support of Earth Hour
Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (“SJM”) supported the global lights-off initiative of Earth Hour 2021, to raise awareness about environmental sustainability and climate change. All SJM properties participated, with their exterior lights and non-essential indoor lights switched off for one hour on Saturday 27 March 2021 at 8:30 pm.
Ms. Daisy Ho, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM, said, “SJM is proud to join people from across the globe to promote sustainable development by raising awareness about cherishing the earth’s resources. We have also encouraged our employees to participate in the campaign by turning off their lights at home. Dedicated to enhancing the green development in the community, SJM will continue integrating environmental sustainability strategies and new technologies into our operations.”
In support of the Macau SAR Government in transforming Macau into a low-carbon city, SJM is committed to maintaining environmental sustainable operations, while encouraging its employees to achieve measurable green objectives through training, education and communication. As a regular participant in green events such as “Macao Energy Conservation Week” and the “Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition”, SJM aims to help spread the important message of environmental protection to the community.
SJM has received a number of accolades for its sustainability efforts. Both Grand Lisboa Hotel and Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16 have been recognised at the Macau Green Hotel Award. SJM’s newest integrated resort Grand Lisboa Palace, ahead of its opening, has garnered the prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (“LEED”) Silver certification. Recognized as a showcase example of sustainability by the certification, Grand Lisboa Palace has demonstrated compliance with stringent building standards in areas of sustainable sites, energy and atmosphere, water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, innovation in design and regional priority.
In addition, SJM is an advocate for advancing co-operation and exchange on green development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area through platforms such as sponsoring the annual International Forum for Clean Energy in Macau.
Moving forward, SJM will continue to support the Macau SAR Government in its efforts to transform Macau into a low-carbon city, creating a more sustainable environment for both its residents and visitors.
