SJM Fully Supports “The Feast of the Drunken Dragon” to Inherit and Promote the National Intangible Cultural Heritage
5 May 2025 – SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) has long supported the “The Feast of the Drunken Dragon,” continued to serve as the main sponsor this year and dispatched the SJM’s volunteer team to assist in distributing longevity rice at the event venue, actively participating in the inheritance and development of this precious national intangible cultural heritage through the innovative “tourism + culture” approach. This strategy aims to inject fresh vitality into traditional festivities while showcasing Macau’s cultural appeal to visitors from around the world.
Organised by the Macao Fish Trade General Association, under the guidance of the Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, and with the full support of the Cultural Development Fund of the Macao SAR Government and SJM, “The Feast of the Drunken Dragon” was successfully held during the Buddha’s Birthday on 5 May. A grand ceremony of worship and drunken dragon lion dance were held on the morning at Senado Square. The performance teams paraded through several districts of the Inner Harbour and Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro, including Grand Lisboa Macau, Hotel Lisboa Macau, Kam Pek Market, Ponte 16 Resort Macau, and Hong Kung Temple. SJM’s mascot, Sam, also joined the performance, creating a lively atmosphere that drew many citizens and tourists watched and took photos.
In addition to sponsoring events, SJM also dispatched volunteer team to assist in distributing longevity rice at the Sam Kai Vui Kun and Iao Hon Market, spreading warmth and care to the community. Meanwhile, SJM made use of the large outdoor screens in its properties to play promotional videos for “The Feast of the Drunken Dragon”, enhancing the promotion of this historic folk event.
“The Feast of the Drunken Dragon” is a unique Macau tradition festival listed on the “Macau Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage” in 2009 and formally recognised as part of the “National Intangible Cultural Heritage List” in 2011.
SJM has long been committed to the conservation and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage. Besides sponsoring “The Feast of the Drunken Dragon”, SJM also fully supports a variety of traditional cultural activities. Earlier, SJM was the exclusive title sponsor of the “The 5th Greater Bay Area Martial Arts Scholar Championship and The 1st Asia Pacific Chinese Wushu Cultural Festival.” For the third consecutive year, SJM has joined hands with the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and the China-Macau Dragon Boat Association to hold the “2025 SJM Macao International Dragon Boat Races”, jointly telling the stories of China and Macao.
