SJM hosts “Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience Workshop Series” to immerse the community in Chinese culture
20 July 2024 – For years, SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) has worked to promote and strengthen the understanding of Chinese culture, while also spreading the spirit of patriotism and love for Macau amongst the local community through a variety of ways. With the aim of giving local community groups a much deeper insight into China’s intangible cultural heritage, SJM invited members of the “Kei Hong Lok Yuen” do Centro Pastoral da Areia Preta of Caritas Macau and the Macau Down Syndrome Association to participate in “Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience Workshop Series” at the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau (“Grand Lisboa Palace”).
Elderly residents from the “Kei Hong Lok Yuen” do Centro Pastoral da Areia Preta of Caritas Macau attended the workshop on 16 July to learn about the traditional Chinese craft of lacquer art. Under the guidance of talented instructors, they discovered how to create magnificent, eye-catching vases through traditional Chinese lacquer craftsmanship. On 20 July, parents and children from the Macau Down Syndrome Association visited Grand Lisboa Palace, where they learned how to create paper kites in an oriental art style. Upon completing the workshops, the community groups visited the famous European-style garden – Jardim Secreto – at Grand Lisboa Palace, where they all had wonderful time together.
Participants thanked SJM for organising this cultural event, providing them the opportunity to experience the fun of making intangible cultural heritage handicrafts and deepen their understanding of traditional Chinese culture.
SJM makes every effort to protect and promote China’s intangible cultural heritage. The newly launched “Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience Workshop Series” have been well received, and SJM will continue to provide more workshops and invite more local social service organisations and community groups to learn valuable Chinese intangible art and culture. In addition, SJM intends to promote the importance of cultural heritage to different walks of life through sponsoring the traditional “Feast of the Drunken Dragon”, and organising the “2024 SJM Macao International Dragon Boat Races” in collaboration with the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and the Dragon Boat Association of Macao, China.
