SJM partners with community associations to support Macau’s neediest through donation of daily necessities
Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (“SJM”) organised its volunteer team members to deliver 2,200 Macau Jiayou Bags, each containing daily necessities including food and anti-epidemic supplies such as rice, toilet paper and masks, to Macao Federation of Trade Unions, General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau, The Women’s General Association of Macau and Caritas Macau for their distribution to Macau’s neediest families. The volunteer team members also assisted in door-to-door delivery service for the elderly and recipients with reduced mobility. All bags were packed by SJM staff, reflecting the concerted efforts of the company in fighting the virus with the government and all the Macau people.
Mr. Lao Ion Fai, Vice-President of Macao Federation of Trade Unions, said, “We are grateful to SJM for the donation of the daily necessities. We will disseminate the supplies to the neediest families swiftly. Macau is now at a critical stage on containing the spread of the coronavirus, we urge everyone to ensure personal hygiene. We stand with Macau people and will continue to provide assistance to our members and the local community.”
Ms. Ng Sio Lai, President of the Board of the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau, said, “SJM is dedicated to supporting community services for the benefit of the underprivileged groups. Our sincere thanks go to SJM for their donation. SJM’s initiative to care for those affected by the coronavirus truly reflects the company’s social responsibility efforts. We will continue to work with the local community in containing the spread of the virus and devote our care to the needy, building a harmonious society together with all Macau people.”
Ms. Lam Un Mui, President of The Women’s General Association of Macau, said, “During this critical time on combating the virus and with the shortage of anti-epidemic supplies, we are very pleased to receive from SJM the donation of Jiayou Bags, which carry with them their sincerest wishes to our women and children. We sincerely thank SJM for actively taking up the social responsibility and for contributing to the disease control work.”
Mr. Paul Pun Chi Meng, Secretary General of Caritas Macau, said, “Our recipients join us here in expressing our grateful thanks to SJM for the timely donation of daily necessities to fight the virus. SJM’s caring action has warmed the hearts of many. The bags will be delivered to the low-income families who are affected by the coronavirus within this week.”
SJM on 11 March pledged to donate 3,000 Macau Jiayou Bags, which are worth MOP1.5 million, to Macau’s neediest families via six local community associations, benefiting the solitary and vulnerable elderly, single-parent families, the chronically ill and persons with disabilities. All 3,000 bags were distributed to the above-mentioned associations plus Macau Special Olympics and Macau Association of the Hearing Impaired from Friday last week. All items in the bags were purchased from local SME vendors as a sign of SJM’s continued support at this critical time.
