SJM and Macau Millennium College Host the “Together, We Grow and Progress with the Motherland” Forum and Patriotic Education Certification Presentation Ceremony
30 May 2025 – SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”), the first integrated resort in Macau dedicated to promoting patriotic education, is committed to fostering national identity among its team members and Macau’s younger generation. On 30 May, SJM and Macau Millennium College hosted the “Together, We Grow and Progress with the Motherland” Forum and Patriotic Education Certification Presentation Ceremony at the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau. The Forum featured guest speakers Professor Luo Weiqi, Vice President of the Chinese Society of Educational Development Strategy and former Director of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, and Mr. Ho King Lun, Deputy to the National People’s Congress and President of the Macau Chamber of Commerce, focusing on “Telling China’s and Macau’s Stories Well” and sharing cutting-edge insights and strategic visions of China’s latest development.
Participating guests include: Mr. Xu Zhiping, Deputy Director of the General Affairs Division of the Education and Youth Affairs Department from the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Mr. Chan Chak In, Head of the Division of Continuing Education of the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macao SAR Government; Professor Zhong Weihe, Rector of Macau Millennium College; Ms. Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM; and Ms. Angela Leong, Director of SJM. Also present were students, teachers, and faculty members from local universities and secondary schools, along with SJM team members, bringing the total number of participants to over 250.
At the same event, the Patriotic Education Certification Presentation Ceremony took place where Ms. Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM, alongside esteemed guests, awarded course certificates to 60 representatives of team members who had successfully completed the patriotic training programme. Since SJM launched the “Modern Chinese History, National Education, and Traditional Chinese Culture” Training Programme with Macau Millennium College in 2018, it has introduced courses covering 42 subjects, including National History, Constitution and Law, Diplomacy and Defence, Macro Economy, Cultural Soft Power, Scientific Development, and the Greater Bay Area. These initiatives aim to enhance team members’ understanding of national progress while fostering a sense of national identity and belonging. To date, over 660 team members have completed this training, totalling 14,300 training hours. This fully demonstrates SJM’s long-term commitment to national education and reflects team numbers’proactive attitude toward learning.
Ms. Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM, stated during her opening remarks, “SJM is deeply committed to its core values of ‘Love for the Motherland, Love for Macau,’ and is dedicated to nurturing a strong sense of national identity both within the company and across the Macau community. We inspire young individuals to connect their personal development with the growth of our nation and region, encouraging them to play an active part in society. As we move forward, SJM will enhance patriotic education through various initiatives, such as national studies programmes, study tours, seminars, and sharing sessions. These efforts aim to deepen the understanding of our nation among team members and the public, while empowering young people to prepare themselves to ‘Together, We Grow and Progress with the Motherland.’ Through our collective embrace of national development, we forge a brighter future together.”
Professor Zhong Weihe, Rector of Macau Millennium College, stated in his address, “This seminar, themed ‘Telling China’s and Macau’s Stories Well,’ serves as a key milestone in national education and a crucial platform for fostering social consensus and collective progress in Macau. Macau Millennium College remains dedicated to its mission of ‘Love for the Motherland, Love for Macau,’ and our collaboration with SJM exemplifies the principle of ‘shared responsibility and mutual development’.”
During the Forum, Professor Luo Weiqi further highlighted that the concept of “Development for the People, Development relies on the People, Development benefits are shared by the People” is integral to China’s socioeconomic progress. By prioritising the interests of the people, China continues to advance its modern development while ensuring the well-being and security of its citizens. The remarkable achievements in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area exemplify China’s commitment to openness, cooperation, and global economic engagement.
Mr. Ho King Lun emphasised that sharing Macau’s story with the world is both a responsibility and an honour for the city’s younger generation. Macau’s development is deeply intertwined with China’s prosperity. Under the successful practice of “One Country, Two Systems,” Macau’s international influence has grown significantly. He urged Macau’s youth to seize the opportunities presented in this new era, actively contribute to Macau’s development, and amplify Macau’s story worldwide.
This patriotic education initiative, delivered through expert lectures, has enhanced participants’ understanding of national affairs and regional development. The programme has inspired greater engagement in effectively “Telling China’s and Macau’s Stories Well”. Attendees reported that the lectures provided deeper insights into the nation’s progress, instilling a profound sense of pride in China’s achievements.
SJM will continue to promote the spirit of “Love for the Motherland, Love for Macau” through diverse initiatives, including industry-academia collaboration programmes to nurture well-rounded young talents who combine professional excellence with patriotic dedication.
